This piece is oil on wood. I started it a number of months ago and it has gone through many revisions. I’m using abstraction and some figure drawing. The thalo blue and green colors connect it to another figure painting I completed in late spring.
Here is a new abstract piece I’m trying to work out. It’s a more intuitive way of working than when making something with representation.
I am working hard to update my Artfinder site where my work is for sale. Please take a look and inquire or make me an offer! I am busy working on new paintings and drawings. Let me know what you think.
I created this by importing a drawing from my sketchbook into a graphic’s program and then working with layers.
This work is in pastel, charcoal and conte crayon. I really enjoy working on paper and with these materials. There is a directness that comes with pastel. The layers can add interesting textures and complexity.
It’s probably not surprising that the train theme is coming into my work since my studio is right next to the tracks. This painting was made a LONG time ago and hung in my carport for years. Now it’s weathered and cracked and this is adding to the nostalgic feeling of the Amtrak train that was coming into the Birmingham station in about 1979.
The painting below was made in November 2017 and it features the tracks, a railcar and geometry.
I started this painting awhile ago but I wasn’t really happy with it. It’s now closer to my idea.
I am trying to get better at digital art programs. Today I used I-draw which has a lot of capabilities. It took me hours to create something that I probably could do in a painting program very quickly. The advantage of this program is the use of layers. Photoshop and other programs use layers so there must be a lot you can do with them. I’d like to get more gradation in the forms.
