Portland Waterfront

I sat on the dock attempted to draw this scene in about 30 minutes or so.  I was attracted to the vivid colors of the buildings, water and boats and the variety of architectural elements so close together.  I completed this work at home using a few photo references.  It would not have been possible to get the level of detail here without spending much more time in front of the subject so I relied on photographs for this piece.  I used masking fluid to save the bright white areas.  Using photographs allows for exploration of detail but it can also lead to a more static or fussy image.
